Who this day is suitable for:

This one-day workshop is ideally suited for registered nurses working as specialist stoma care nurses. In collaboration with the Clinical Skin Sciences Institute (CSSI) this experiential workshop delves into the many facets of skin health, using innovative methods to explore the skin physiology, microbiome and its biophysical properties.

Learning objectives:

Explain the mechanical and physiological factors that compromise peristomal skin integrity based on underlying skin anatomy.

Analyse how stoma formation and appliance use alter the skin microbiome balance and affect overall skin health.

Evaluate skin barrier function and identify signs of dysfunction using biophysical measurements, including TEWL, hydration, pH, and elasticity.

Critique current stoma care literature to identify clinical evidence gaps and brainstorm innovative strategies for evidence-based practice.
