This is an interactive workshop for registered nurses who site stomas as part of their clinical role. We emphasise active learning, which provides practical, hands-on experience in stoma siting. The workshop includes practical exercises, case studies, and interactive learning to equip nurses with the skills to confidently site stomas for patients of diverse needs and body types.

Understand the Role of the Specialist Stoma Care Nurse: Gain a clear understanding of the specialist stoma care nurse’s responsibilities in preparing patients for surgical procedures that may result in stoma formation.

Importance of Pre-surgical Patient Preparation: Recognise the significance of thorough patient preparation prior to elective surgery with potential stoma formation.

Master Abdominal Assessment: Learn how to assess the abdomen to determine the optimal stoma site for improved patient outcomes.

Patient Advocacy in Stoma Marking: Develop skills and knowledge to advocate for patients by ensuring accurate marking of the abdomen for temporary or permanent stomas.

Consider Lifestyle Factors: Understand the critical role of discussing lifestyle factors with patients before siting a stoma to tailor care to their individual needs.
