10 things we love about building a community

We know how important it is to have a strong support system and the impact it can have in the lives of those living with a stoma. We’ve always believed that fostering a strong and supportive community can make a real difference and feel passionately about building a family where people can connect, share and support one another.

Our Salts Brand Advocate Family come together for an array of activities and opportunities, from being part of our online campaigns to sharing insights and opinions and attending our in-person social events.

Here are 10 things we love about our special community.

1. Turning virtual connections into real-life friendships

The joy of seeing advocates meet face-to-face for the first time after months of connecting online is unmatched. It’s a testament to the strength of the community.

2. Seeing people be both brave and vulnerable

There’s something so moving about witnessing people come together to share their stories with courage and authenticity.

3. The power of shared experiences

Watching some of our longer-term advocates offer reassurance and guidance to newer members of the family is a powerful reminder of how meaningful these connections are.

“I feel so honoured to be part of such an amazing group of people and love that we all love and have Salts Healthcare in common as part of our stoma journeys.”

Becca Napper

4. Having fun and letting our hair down

For us, building a community is also about laughter, joy and creating spaces where everyone can relax and enjoy themselves. Whether it’s brunch, a social event or a group call, the opportunity to unwind together is truly special.

5. Making a difference to individual lives

Our community is all at different stages of life with a stoma. When advocates tell us how an event has changed their outlook or that they no longer feel alone, it’s complete validation of the impact we’ve had.

6. Witnessing incredible dedication and passion

We’re constantly inspired by stories like Nikki’s, who set two goals while recently in hospital: to go Christmas shopping with her mum and to attend our brunch. Seeing her accomplish these ambitions, flying back and forth from Northern Ireland in a day just to be there, was something we’ll never forget.

7. Encouraging honest conversations

One of the most heart-warming aspects of this group is that people feel safe to share their authentic selves without any judgment. “I always appreciate all the new people I meet within our community — such genuine and lovely individuals.” Sophie White

8. Transforming insights into improvements

The conversations we have provide invaluable insights. By truly listening to these stories and collaborating on projects, we can implement changes that transform the lives of those living with a stoma.

9. Celebrating achievements together

Hearing about milestones — whether it’s someone’s first post-surgery outing or a personal goal that’s been achieved — reminds us that every step is worth celebrating. 10. Feeling like family It’s such a tight-knit, supportive community. The shared understanding and genuine care between everyone involved is what makes this journey so special.

Every story shared, every connection made, and every moment of inspiration makes us even stronger.

We’re so grateful to our amazing advocates for sharing their experiences, time and energy with us. They’re a constant source of inspiration and we’re so proud to be working with them to build a community that means so much to so many.
