Guests Invited to Special Preview of New Facilities of Salts Healthcare

We were delighted to invite guests from the areas of research, education and stoma care to a special preview evening at Salts Healthcare’s head office. Guests were invited to take a look around the two new facilities which have recently been officially opened by Andy Street, Mayor of the West Midlands.

Members of the Salts Academy and Central Skin Sciences Institute (CSSI) teams were on hand to show guests around the fantastic new facilities. In the CSSI the team carried out a series of demonstrations to showcase some of the skin testing equipment which will be utilised at the Institute.

After enjoying refreshments and delicious canapes, guests were invited into the Salts Academy to hear a series of presentations which explained a little more on the background of the new facilities. Robert Salt, Managing Director, officially welcomed everyone and explained Salts Healthcare’s reasons for the development and investment in the two new amazing facilities: a desire to continue to improve education and research. Then Angie Perrin, Clinical Education Lead, gave a brief overview of the history of stoma care education for healthcare professionals in the UK, and how the original Salts Academy was born in 2012 to help fill a gap in this specialist education. Angie went on to explain the range of courses and study days which are now offered by Salts Academy and plans to increase these moving forward.

Mireille Hamson, Clinical Research Manager at CSSI, presented the reasons why the Central Skin Sciences Institute has been founded and its aims for gaining a fuller understanding of skin health. Guests heard a little about skin itself: the largest organ in the human body, and how it can be compromised by medical adhesives. This is something that the research studies conducted will aim to improve in the future, by growing knowledge and driving innovation into improved adhesive technology for the skin.

Peter Salt, Chief Executive, closed the evening by thanking everyone for attending and reinforcing Salts Healthcare’s passion for investing in research and education: two driving forces for the business today.

Speaking during the event, Prof Tony Metcalfe, Professor of Industrial Wound Healing at University of Birmingham, said “It’s going to be amazing for patient care in terms of stoma patients – and what a revolution it’s going to bring to these patients. Looking in the laboratory suites and what’s going on there, as well as the clinical suites too, I think between them there is going to be some ‘gold dust’ created! I think we are going to see some really innovative research and development, but actually in a clinical setting as well. So, I think ultimately Salts’ aim to help patients is here in this building where we are today and I’m getting really excited about it!”

Penny Harrison, Senior Lecturer in Adult Nursing at De Montfort University, who runs the Stoma Course in conjunction with the Salts Academy said “I’m absolutely bowled over with the quality and range of facilities here. I would like to thank Salts Healthcare for the commitment and vision in developing the Academy facilities, and also for their continued commitment towards Stoma Care Nurses’ education and, in turn, I’m sure that will reflect through to the quality of patient care at the hands of these experts.”
