Activities to do Instead of Scrolling on Social Media

Taking a break from social media can be important when prioritising your mental health. Here are a few ways you can avoid scrolling for hours!

📖 Read a new book from a genre you’ve not tried before

Why not try something completely different? You could find your new favourite!

🎨 Get creative and try a new hobby, no pressure for it to be perfect!

You could try scrapbooking, crotchet, painting, or even just doodling on a post-it note.

🎶 Listen to Calming Music or Podcasts

Soothing music can be incredibly helpful when trying to unwind. You could also listen to a podcast that interests you!

💌 Write a letter to a close friend or relative

Let them know you’re grateful for them, just because!

📕 Start a low-pressure journal

No need to do it every single day, just whenever you’re grateful for something or someone.

💆‍♂️ Try a Relaxing Breathing Exercise

Why not try the 4-7-8 breathing technique? It’s thought to help reduce nervousness, stress, and calm anxiety.

🌿 Take a Nature Walk

If you are able to, take a quiet walk outdoors, even if it’s just for a few minutes! Being in nature can help bring you to the present and ground your mind.

🙌 Raise your happy hormones

We have a webinar all about your body’s happy hormones and how to boost them, watch it today to see how you can benefit!

🏃‍♂️ Try doing some exercise

Our Physical Well-being page has advice on getting back into exercise after stoma surgery. Be sure to seek advice from your Stoma Care Nurse prior to starting any new exercises.

🌸 Explore Mindfulness Apps

Mindfulness apps can be a good alternative to social media, helping you focus on the present moment. Visit our Psychological Well-being page to find some recommendations!

🧠 Learn about something new!

Is there a topic you’ve always been interested in? Why not watch a YouTube video, read an article, or listen to a podcast to dive into it?

☕ Make a cuppa and take a quiet moment just for you

No need to do anything.
