#ToMyStomaCareNurse: 2025 International Nurses Day

This year for International Nurses Day we launched an online campaign which allowed those living with a stoma to share their words of gratitude to their Stoma Care Nurse.

We’re so delighted to have been able to highlight the amazing impact that SCNs across the country have on those going through their journey. A huge THANK YOU from all of us at Salts Healthcare, to each and every Stoma Care Nurse.

See all the notes from the community below!

Sarah from Nottingham University Hospital was my stoma nurse. I was anxious and scared but she was so understanding, answered all of the silly questions and was there while before my op and after. A little team but so dedicated to their patients. xx My stoma care nurse was so kind and understanding. I was so fearful but she was nothing but kind.

You prepared me for the unknown. The sample bags, the fake stoma, the in-depth talks - your guidance before surgery gave me strength and confidence. You went above and beyond. From home deliveries to daily hospital visits, your care never stopped at the ward doors. I’m grateful. You weren’t just a nurse - you were my lifeline. From hospital bedside checks to reassuring phone calls at home, you were there when I needed you most - all of you! Your empathy changed everything. You saw me, heard me, and made me feel like I wasn’t alone in this journey. Thank you. You’re more than a nurse - you’re a specialist with a heart of gold. Thank you for choosing to support people like me, and for doing it with such kindness and expertise. Much love x

I’d like to thank Royal Cornwall Hospital Stoma Care Lead , ‘Meg Tremayne’ and her colleagues for helping me this time three years ago. Before, during and after major surgery which resulted in my stoma, their advice and care was the difference between me coping and not coping. After surgery, Meg was the first friendly face I saw on the EPOC Unit and she lifted my spirits immeasurably. She is a remarkable nurse and wonderful human being. She also runs Cornwall Ostomy Support and is dedicated to helping her patients long-after they leave hospital. I simply love her to bits.

Although a while ago, the stoma nurses' help, advice & knowledge helped me through such a difficult time. Life changing but life saving, thank you.

When I had my surgery I was under a different health board so was overseen by a stoma nurse that I had not met before and wasn’t going to see again, but she was my biggest advocate. I’ve spoken about my awful experience in hospital following my surgery and won’t delve back into that, but without the support of the stoma nurse it would have been even worse. She was a lifeline x Thank you to all the stoma nurses out there.

- Katie

You come into our lives when we are our most vulnerable & help us see this isn’t the end but the beginning of a whole new world of opportunity. The work you do truly changes lives.

- Evie May Hodgson

You helped me accept my stoma and helped me at hospital, I will never forget the support you have gave me over the years, you are AMAZING.

- Jessica

I would like to thank my stoma nurse, who I met when I was at my most vulnerable time in my life as well as having multiple leaks with my stoma. I was in such a bad place I could not even look at her let alone speak to her, but she persevered and over time I came to trust her, and she has been a massive part of my life. I would just like to thank her for everything you have done for me and many others, you are missed by the clients at Second Chance Ostomy in Selby and by myself and Benjamin.

- Jackie Butterworth

Thank you for the reassurance and strength that has carried me through my journey! Thank you for reminding me that we are capable of hard things and that for every bad day there is 10 better days! Thank you for the comfort in hospital when I was alone and being my voice when I was weak! I can’t imagine having to go through this stoma journey without your support and compassion!

-Lucy Pugh

Huge thank you to my amazing stoma nurses Leanne and Pauline who have given me the confidence to belive in myself after surgery, getting me back to competitions and loving life again!
