The National Study Day held in 2017 was centred around the impact of having a stoma on body image.

The day was opened by the fantastic and truly inspirational Katie Piper, who shared her own story with the audience, and how she rebuilt her life after a brutal attack in March 2008 at the age of 24.

Katie is now a charity campaigner, author, tv presenter and philanthropist, as well as a role model to others. Her presentation received a well-deserved standing ovation and kicked off the day perfectly.

Our other speakers during the day spoke on the following subjects:

Radical Cystectomy and Urinary Tract Reconstruction: The Robots are Coming

Daniel Wilby, Consultant Urologist, Queen Alexandra Hospital, Portsmouth

Ostomy and Me.

Sue Lennon, Psychosexual Therapist and Macmillan CNS (Retired)

Everybody Matters: Gender Issues and their Impact

Sharon Fillingham, Gender & Psychosexual Therapist and CPF Urinary Diversion.

Look Good, Feel Good

A presentation by ‘House of Colour’ on the benefits of colour-matching to skin tone

A Patient’s Perspective

Michelle Cole, Colostomist
