Making the Invisible Visible - Jessica Logan

You might recall us covering a feature on an inspirational young lady called Jessica nearly two years ago.  Having been diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis in 2017, and having emergency stoma surgery during the same week, Jessica has worked tirelessly to raise the profile of invisible illnesses.  She set up ‘Making the Invisible Visible’ in 2019 and now sells a variety of merchandise featuring the striking imagery.  Jessica has become a role model to others by sharing photographs of herself with her stoma bag.

Jessica has now held a series of empowerment photoshoots with a variety of people who suffer from ‘invisible illnesses’.  The resulting photographs are extremely powerful and can be seen at: https://www.makingtheinvisiblevisible.org.uk.  She also runs a live event called Warrior, which is a pageant for people with invisible illnesses and disabilities.  The first event took place in October 2021, with 30 warriors taking part and over 70 people in the audience.  The event raised a fantastic total of £1500!  Jessica has big plans for an even larger event in September this year, which Salts Healthcare is delighted to be able to support, along with everything it stands for.

As if this wasn’t enough to keep Jessica busy, she has also taken part in a number of beauty pageants herself with the aim of highlighting invisible illnesses.  Jessica competed in the Role Model category of Royal UK Pageants in early 2020, coming second and narrowly missing the chance to compete internationally in the United States.  This was nevertheless a huge achievement.  Jessica took part in the same event a year later, but unfortunately she was suffering from heightened anxiety on the day and struggled through her interview whilst having a panic attack.  In spite of this, Jessica made the top 3 in the Role Model Category which was another wonderful achievement.

Last year Jessica competed in Miss Diamond UK and made it to a Grand Finalist!  Diamond, the pageant organiser, celebrates the beauty and diversity of every woman, which is a wonderful fit with the work that Jessica does herself.  She says she was inspired to sign up after seeing the diversity of their 2021 winners and the support they provided to her.  Jessica is honoured to be representing these winners and looks forward to the finals in October when she will compete for a place to travel to the Las Vegas Finals next year.  We wish her the very best of luck!

On Saturday 26th February Jessica attended the Natural Beauty Awards 2022, which is an awards ceremony for pageants.  We are delighted to report that Jessica won Charity Fundraiser of the Year, and also came in the top 3 of two other awards for which she was nominated: Community Inspiration of the Year and Best Charity Pageant.  Jessica said “I am over the moon that The Warrior Charity Pageant came in the top 3 after just our first year!”.  We agree, what a fantastic achievement Jessica, well done once again!
