Confidence BE® #BEyourselfie: Claire

Claire, 30, suddenly started getting constipated, which ended in excruciating pain, severe weight-loss and, eventually, life-saving surgery.

“My bowel just stopped working”

Cross-fit fanatic Claire was an active, healthy young woman who had never experienced any bowel issues when, at 29, she became chronically constipated and was admitted to hospital. Following intense treatment, Claire started to feel better, gained weight and her bowel movements returned almost to normal, but six months later the problems returned and she lost three stone in a matter of weeks. Her condition deteriorated rapidly and she was given the news that the only way to save her was to remove her bowel. Claire agreed to have the surgery knowing it was her only option.

“Finding a bag that didn’t feel like a medical product completely changed my outlook”

Claire was so ill before surgery that she hadn’t even considered what her recovery would look like. She was scared at first, but got a little bit better each day. After two weeks, she was allowed home. While her physical recovery went well, she found that recovering from the trauma and getting used to the bag more challenging. The bag she first left hospital with made her feel much older than her age, she hated how it looked and always wore baggy t-shirts over it. When she came across Confidence BE® online she couldn’t believe the colours and overall look, this wasn’t a stoma bag, it was more like fitness clothing. Wearing it completely changed her outlook.

“I never knew life could be this good”

Claire is back to herself at her happiest. She has been able to continue with her beloved Cross-fit, lifting heavier weights, running faster and feeling stronger than ever before. Encouraged by partner Daisy she is competing wearing sports crop tops and leggings, hoping to motivate and inspire others by her journey. Claire never thought she’d be able to feel this confident and that life with a stoma could be this good.

How Confidence BE® helps Claire...

Claire wears Confidence BE® one-piece drainable in all colours which she says feels less like a medical product and more like an everyday piece of clothing.

The colours available mean I have a bag for every occasion. I can feel confident wearing thinner or light weight materials and white tops because I know my bag won’t be visible. I can wear black to match my underwear, bikinis or gymwear and I can wear stone when my stomach is exposed to make the bag appear less obvious. The main thing about these bags is that, even when the bag is on show, it doesn’t look like an ostomy bag. It looks like part of an outfit. It’s so well designed that you can wear it with confidence.

We would like to say a big thank you to Claire for sharing her Confidence BE® story with us.
