Golf Day Raises Money for City Cancer Appeal

Nottingham City Hospital’s Prostate Cancer Equipment Appeal has been given a boost by Salts Healthcare which raised £2,000 from a recent golf day.

Staff from Salts – one of the UK’s leading providers of stoma care and orthotic products – met up with its suppliers from across the country to take part in the event, with12 teams in all taking part.

Salts’ Managing Director, Peter Salt, said: “The number of men diagnosed with prostate cancer is on the increase, with more than 27,000 new cases each year, so we were all keen to raise as much money as possible to help this very worthwhile appeal. We invited people from all sorts of companies that we work with and we were delighted to get such a good response. People came from far afield to join us at Ruddington Grange Golf Course in Nottingham and we had an enjoyable, if competitive day.”

Owen Cole, the hospital’s Lead Consultant – Urology Cancer, explained the reason for the appeal: “Prostate cancer can be most effectively treated when in its first stages, so early detection is important. Urology, however, is an expensive specialty because the technologies used evolve very quickly. Our fundraising appeal will enable us to invest in specialised equipment for research into developing new treatments and ways of administering the best possible care and we are grateful to Salts for their contribution.”
